Spring Break Thoughts

Im happy right now. I can sit down and eat a meal separate from my computer. Today I went to the Nelson with my family and checked out their new 75th Anniversary Exhibit. I go to sleep when i'm tired. I worked on some freelance projects this week and i enjoyed designing them. I'm happy right now.

I had an amazing summer where i was also happy everyday. I was in a beautiful place inside (amazing studio) and outside. ( The ocean, mountains and desert all around me.) I was refreshed and recharged to begin my Senior year at this amazing, intense, fun, and stressful school.

But it's because of the stress and intensity of this program i have become the designer i am today and i am thankful for it. It has given me a great sense of accomplishment over the years and im stunned with all i have achieved through all the challenges and struggles that come with putting yourself through college.

Again, I feel refreshed and recharged to start this last leg of my college career. (!!!!!) I want to end on a high note, a note i feel like my whole education at KCAI has been and i think, with actually taking a break, i am set up to do so.

We are suppose to brand ourselves in professional practice - not an easy thing to do.

Originally I didn't think i wanted create a logo, I just wanted t0 typeset my name. Then I had an idea..

I created this script of my first name on whim. I chose to do just my first name because when you think about Josh is a pretty odd name - and interesting. I chose to do this really scripty e style because of how much of a contrast it is to my work.

My vision for this was juxtaposing this script with my my work. This was a challenge.

Another idea i wanted to play with was using crops of my work in my business card to add the graphic element. So, instead of making some new graphics, i'm using some i already have. Here is a solution I came to in combining these ideas. Im not sure how i feel about it....

S0, Lisa sent out an email about a design contest to design a logo with only text and the winner gets $500!

this was my first stab.

On Monday i presented this logo to gang and found out they were looking for a "script" logo. Evidence of the human touch. They understood my misunderstanding and gave me another chance.

This is what i came up with.

Working with script really isn't my thing and i haven't had much experience with it. This version was closer but not exactly what they were looking for. However, after seeing this logo they decided to go with me as the artist to create the script.

Below is the how the final logo turned out. This was definitely a challenge for me. Im not sure this is portfolio worthy, but it was a good learning experience and i got a good chunk of change as well.

REVISED QUESTION

I am having trouble figuring out the second half of this question. Here is one stab at it:

How can a new kind of online design community help other designers understand the importance of being environmentally considerate, and inspire them to do the same.

the problem i have with the second half of this is that the quesion is limiting the content to environmentally aware work when it is more than that. The kind of work i want to highlight, in simple terms, is design that does more. While design that is considerate of the environment fits in that category, its not limited to it. It could be a great pro-bono project, ext. Design that helps both people, and the planet. Here's another try:

How can a new kind of online design community help other designers understand that design is more than aesthetics, and challenge them to do more with their own work?

Aol Identity in Action!

I have mentioned the new Aol identity in a previous post - and its been live for some time - but this morning i stumbled on the homepage was excited to see the identity in action.

On the homepage the user has the opportunity to choose the their Aol logo / image from a list of about 30 options. Just in general the simplicity, large type, and colors of their web presence is beautiful.

here is another Aol page meant for news regarding television.

I am really excited that Aol went for a such a unique and forward identity. I have noticed a lot of companies taking risks lately when they create a new identity (The City of Melborne, for example, whose new identity made its way around the web recently) and hopefully in the future i will get a chance to work with some of the these forward-thinking companies.

Navigation by Color

what i hoped to achieve

In a nutshell Through this website i wanted to achieve a innovative, simple and beautiful navigation that didn't scream the program it was made in. I also wanted to gain further knowledge of actionscript, and come out the semester with an idea and wireframe i was excited about.

rationale for my design decisions

I love color, and i have used a pretty wide variety of color in my work. I thought it would be interesting and unique if the primary way of navigating my site was through color. My website allows for some discovery with the use of very limited text and a second way of navigating through similar projects. I also think its interesting that the user is encouraged to navigate based on aesthetic preferences instead of by category or content.

what i learned

I learned that compromises in design are necessary, and, in reality, almost impossible to avoid.

what i am most proud of

I am most proud of finishing with a skeleton, and concept that i will use as my final portfolio site. (i'm thinking I may even get started over break!) Things will change, but all the basics are there and i'm excited about the possibilities.

what i struggled with

I struggled with making the website exactly how, in a perfect world, i want it to be as well as coming up with a compromise i was happy with.

I found this first section of the reading to be pretty interesting, especially in the printed word section and the evolution of the traditional pages to web pages. But, ill start my response at the beginning.

I found the relationship of the web to Marx's ideal citizen pretty funny with the possibility of doing SO many things on the web, while in actuality you are sitting in one place. One area, tho, that i am not completely clear on is if the article is making a distinction between new media artwork and the evolution of the interface and saying that a good interface is both that and information design. Personally, i believe the second, and i hope that my interfaces in the future will be new media art, as well as information design.

Another area that raised some questions for me was when he introduced that the book and cinema could be considered an iterface. I did not completely buy the cimema one at first, especially with his example of the setting being a movie theatre. (the viewer has no control here) I do think, however, that cinema is more of an interface when your at home and YOU have control of it. At home you can fast forward and rewind, pause, and skip creating a more "interface" type interaction.

in the printed word section i found the realtionship, and evolution of the "page" on websites to be interesting. I like how in the begining the relationship was quite literal (the stacking of pages on websites) compared to now when the idea of stacking pages is avoided. I think this idea of thinking of a webpage as a webspace is a new idea, and one i will strive to create in my own work. I wonder what the next evolution of a website will be?

When the article introduced the idea of cinema in the previous section i interpreted it to mean that the film itself was a interface wich i was kind of confused by. After reading the cinema section the relationship the he makes of cinema and an interface make more sense. He is talking more about the pieces of the film ( scenes, transitions, ext. ) not the entire film itself. This idea i completely understand, and i handn't really thought about an interface in that way before.

This section started by talking about photography. Some points that really made sense to me were the fact that most interaces have a dolly, track and zoom function and those are derived directly from photographs. Also, the idea of the "frame" in interfaces. There is much more beyond the lens of your computer screen.

In the reading, the author primarily relates the cinema cultural interface to video games, but i think some of those ideas can be related to website interfaces. In cinema, moving from scene to scene is a key componant. I think the same importance is present in website design except its from page to page, or area to area. In a website if the user selects something and all the surroundings change abrubtly that would be a "jump cut" in cinema. But, if the use selects something and the webpage transitions into the next page, or moves aroung the current page then it is more like just a continuous scene in a movie. I believe that the second option can be most interesting, but i think there is a place for both.

Personally, i think the reason i like interface and motion design so much is because there is a narrative involved in both. You get the create an experience for the user. I think my mind easily thinks on a timeline.

Towards the end of the section the author mentions a few projects - and i really like one in particular, The Invisible Shape of Things Past. In this project the user virtually walks through a area with strategically placed shapes filled with facts of history relating specifically to that area. I think this is a step away from the realm of a video game, and a bit more of an informational website. I think this website could even relate to our current project and alternate ways of navigation.

I thought this was interesting:
"The computer screen also functions both as a window into an illusionary space and as a flat surface carrying text labels and graphical icons. " (90)

pgs 94 - 103

this section was pretty enlightening for me. I hadn't really thought of a screen before the computer screen, and the idea of the personal computer being developed as an offshoot of military technology, and not an idea of its own, was pretty interesting.

I like how the author explains the screen and as a flat rectangular screen sitting in front of you that gives you "the illusion of navigating through virtual spaces, of being physically present somewhere else or being hailed by the computer itself." It so true though, getting on the computer can be an escape from the "real world" and all your troubles. In cyberspace you can essentially create who you are. Today, almost everything can be done on the computer - work, pay bills, order food, buy clothes...everything. I would not be surprised if by the time i die the computer does everything. I hope its not like in the movies tho when the computers decide the think for themselves and kill all the humans.

Going back to the previous sections and mention of the evolution of interfaces from books and cinema, the author brought up another aspect developed from these early media. We refer to the type orientation on the screen as landscape, or portrait derived from painting. I've really enjoyed making this connections between the very tech oriented interface with a lot more analog medias of our past. It makes sense tho. Everything is an evolution.

I also thought it was interesting the reason "the screen" was created initially was to gather information for military purposes, and the use of it now has not changed to much. There are a lot of different things to use the screen for, but i think the primary reason is form information management.

So we have been reading about, looking at, and been inspired by all these different designers, design firms, and campaigns that are socially conscious, sustainable, ext. SO, what if there was a web site that compiled all the best ones, organized them by category and presented them to the public giving them the ability to vote on their favorite? Then, what if there was annual awards show hosted by the website, on the website, that presented the winners?

Well, thats what i hope to design next semester.

Below are the three interactivity direction wireframes i have developed for my future portfolio site. The goal was to think of new, and interesting ways to navigate the page while still being clear. Throughout the process i realized that i didn't want my portfolio site to be "flashy." I wanted the site to be simple, and beautiful with my work really being the focus. The point was made during our discussion this morning that, with my intended career in motion should my portfolio site reflect that... I think so, but i don't think it has to scream it. My goal will be to incorporate some action into the site subtly, and simply.

Gradient Navigation (chosen direction)

My first interactive method used a gradient of color as my main nav. The color on the gradient will relate to the color within my work. The small gradient on the left is my nav, with the larger color block being my work.

Key Word Navigation

In this one the user sorts through my work with keywords. Not words relating to media, or function but by concept.

Space Navigation

In this method the work is originally shown as an abstract collage in clusters probly by category (motion, identity, ext ) That when you click on it the work expands along the z axis allowing the user to navigate "through space"

VIS • ADV / Degree Project, Thoughts

I have been excited about this project since sophomore year, especially after seeing Garrett’s project and all that he learned in the process. Garrett knew exactly what he wanted to learn, and now he is an actionscript king and his career is soaring. So, the absolute number one focus of my degree project will be to learn the technology I need to learn to get the job I want to get when I graduate. What college in general is all about.

Through out the last two and half years we have been introduced to the many different forms graphic design can take, and a few have stuck out as interesting to me, Interactive, and motion design. Both of these involve a heavy technology aspect, but also the ability the think on a timeline, or in steps – a way I feel my mind naturally works.

A few things I would like the make during the span of the semester are a pretty comprehensive website, as well as a system of motion graphics. My main question, and one I’m struggling with, is the content. So, as a method of figuring this out I am looking at what I’m interested in, or the content of the articles I find myself reading when searching the internet. A huge interest of mine is the entertainment industry in general. Im not gonna kid myself, or anyone else, that i don't like these things because they are mainstream, and mainstream may not be cool in an "art school" environment. I like mainstream. I love blockbuster movies, the music on the radio, and all the gossip and personalities that come with it.

Another thought I have had, and one brought on my visual advocacy project, is creating beautiful design that is not expensive to maintain (special printers, stock, ink, size, ext.) and uses the client’s current resources to their fullest (ink jet printers, photo copier, ext.)

As a way to further figure out the content I want to work with I took at look at some of the firms I am interested in (We Are Royale, Digital Kitchen, and Prologue) to see what kind of work they are doing. We are Royale has a lot of commercial type motion graphics, while Digital Kitchen seems to be more about the TV shows, and Prologue’s focus is movies.

I think it would be really fun to make an identity for a movie – and all the pieces that come with it. (Posters, website, trailer, movie titles, TV spots, ext) But, what movie? Maybe redesign all these things for an existing movie? I would also enjoy designing all the motion elements and website for say a news station or Network.

The only problem I see with these, and I’m not sure it is a problem, is neither are “socially conscious.” But the truth is, I’m really not passionate about anything “socially conscious” at this point. I am focused on finding a job and starting my career. My target audience is then the firms i mentioned previously, and what's going to grab their attention is going the be the formal side, the wow factor, ext. Being motion / TV based, the message needs to be clear and quick to understand and eye grabbing. And honestly, I don’t see myself ever going into the activism, advocate side of design. Knowing me, I would loose steam with the project quickly if I chose a subject just because it is socially conscious and pretend to care about it. This is why I have been brainstorming in areas that I am interested in, in areas that I like to read about, research about, and look at. I think this is the key to my being successful in this project, and really to anyone’s success. Since this project has been referred to as the “jewel” in our portfolio I feel like it should be just that – a piece that is going to stand out to my potential employers as proof that I am right to join their team.

thoughts after class discussion

So taking my interest in the entertainment industry, and desire to create entertainment type materials, plus my goal to work with interactive and motion media i think targeting the local entertainment, movie scene (im told there is one) and trying to help out organizations associated with those. The problem i see here is the chance of the a client /designer relationship. But i think talking with them to figure out what kinds of things they need, or find important is beneficial.

Maybe i can take some kind of process and explain it visually through motion graphics, or explaining a cause and how it works to help those involved?

The biggest problem i have, and one i struggle with often i think, is putting purpose to form. I often think form first, then content. :sigh: i really have no idea what kind of content to use that will give me end result i want.

i need to think.

The drop out rate in Missouri is among the highest in the nation, and Missouri Options is a program fighting to reverse this fact. Missouri Options allows students who have dropped out of high school to join the program and graduate with an official High School diploma. Unfortunately, they do not have a lot of funding for marketing, so their main way of targeting dropouts is through a single phone call. My goal is to help Missouri Options reach these students, students who have been out of a high school for an extended period of time, and make them realize how crucial it is to have AT LEAST a high school diploma.

This is an example of how a browse function might work. A simplified version of the site that allows the user to surf recently uploaded pieces of info. The user can move through this huge grid of info by the flick of a finger.

and with a click learn more about a specific place. And there will be the ability to save the info to their profile.

The nav is constant and stays attached to the side of the browser and moves as the browser moves. In the background is a huge grid of recent updates to the site that constantly change while the user is on the site. They are very light and intended for the background until they are moused over.

upon rollover the image light up with the title. The user can then click on the image and more info with be presented, and the ability to save to their profile will be available. The point of this is primarily for random discovery. At any time during the users experience on the site something in the background might grab his attention and he could find something about some city he may not have before.

This is the environment page. In this page a lot of statistical comparison happens between the areas of interest of the user. We would like to have three different ways of comparing the info, and in this example it is the "sort" method.

Okay, pretend the boxes are states of the US.

The user can select and highlight a few states in particular they are interested in and watch them specifically through the various types of comparison

the user click the info they want to compare and the states magically rearrange! The selected states also store comparison info within them.

and after a bit of comparison you would have a state that is filled with relevant info that the can be saved to your profile.

and in the real world portion of the site, the "frame" created by the orange box is gone, and its just a free open space filled with a giant grid of user added information.

and that info can be sorted with certain things coming to the forefront.

Ok,

i talked to Nancy Young this afternoon, a guidance counselor at RHS about the issues she believes are facing her students. The top two issues she believed were

a. financial problems

b. getting drop - outs into a program to get a diploma

financial problems

a lot of the students are facing tremendous financial hardship with their parents being layed off, and other students who are actually homeless. Obviously, drastic change in a financial situations create huge changes in the future and for these students that often means attending college. She said that it is important to stress to them the importance of keeping up your grades and being proactive about finding scholarships.

drop-outs

A big one on her list was trying to get drop-outs in some kind of program that will allow them to get a diploma. Currently all they are doing is calling the students to educate them on the options, so obviously a lot more could be done. There is this program called the Missouri Option Plan (of whom i'm meeting with tomorrow afternoon) that allows students who are in the program to work for 3hrs and attend class for three hours, similar to a GED program -- but with one big difference. At the end of the program the students are able to walk at graduation, and will graduate with and official RHS diploma. No one will ever know that they attended this special program unless the students tells them.

i choose drop-outs.

i think there is a lot of need here for a professional design campaign to educate these students on the options they have for getting their diploma, and how important it is that they get one. Also, whatever campaign i design has a good chance of being implemented with RHS.

I have decided to hold off on picking what specific issue to address at Raytown High School until i have talked to some professionals directly involved with the students about the issues they believe to be present. I think keeping an open mind would be beneficial because from my interviews my eyes could be opened up to a more specific, and less advocated issue than underage drinking.

i would like this interview (or revised version) to be a mass email to all the faculty and staff for a more comprehensive result. I will hopefully be able to talk a guidance counselor tomorrow and get the balls in motion for the upcoming week of interviews and research

Raytown High School, the high school i attended, is only about 30 minutes from here and i think a project like this would be a great opportunity for me to go back and work with them. My sister is 16 and a Junior there and through discussions with her drinking and drug use is very big issue.

I can think of one example recently that happened with my sister that shows the clear presence alcohol has at this high school and the curiosity it puts in the minds of youth. My mom had purchased some Blue Moon beer, delicious by the way, to drink casually at home. After a few days we had noticed a beer unaccounted for, and my sister had drank it. Im glad she tried it at home, but none the less there is a pressure for kids in high school to drink, and know how to drink and most social situations aren't without the temptation.

Some shocking underage drinking Stats:

- each year approximately 5,000 young people under the age of 21 die as a result of underage drinking

- 3/4th of 12 graders, 2/3rds of 11th graders, and 2 out 5 eighth graders have consumed alcohol

- In 2003 the average age of the first use of alcohol was 14

For my wireframes i went through and 3 different types of presenting the information interating only one example of each of the three main pages - opening page / sorting method / artifact page.

These are the two best of my three designs concepts for our essay comparison website.

(both concepts are in a sequence of roll overs and clicks.)

In this concept i wanted it to feel like you were looking at someone's notes on the essay. There is really no deeper meaning i am giving these essays - just further explanation and pairing visuals with the topics mentioned in the articles.

In this concept i am finding sentences in both articles that can be compared to each other either because of their similarity, or opposition. I think i will go with this concept for that reason, I am giving deeper meaning to the essays.

I've Figured it Out! // TYPE IV

So,

where i was struggling last week was trying to find the "purpose" and content for my experiments (i know, thats not the point of experimenting, but i need it). The opportunity to create a designalogue banner gave me that purpose, and once i started going, i kept going. Just the simple task to create the banner helped me solve a lot problems i was running into with producing all the things i wanted to make.

I created 3 versions of the same bitmap typefaces with three different dot sizes:

Then i took the letters and experimented with layering them on top of each other

The dots reversed, where its the negative shapes that overlap.

Some other simple layering, just 2 layers. (I found that layering three directly on top of each other was not very "pretty" and when i off-spaced all three the the letter would become muddy.

Then i took the alphabet and and starting working with a word, designalogue.

I first started using CMYK

What i thought was nice about these below is that with all three overlapped it creates a fourth letter. Also, in the close-up, there is some nice layering happening.

Through this experiment is revealed how i could do my poster series. ( three different posters that alone don't mean anything, but all together do.) I could have three posters of dot compositions or even loose dot images (?) that when they overlap the dots on top of each other would reveal a phrase, or something.

the next step for me is to print these letters out and work with them by hand. This week will truly be a week of making.

Let man is not a "layering" artist per say. And i dont think there really is an artist specializing in layering, or at least in the way i want to explore it. He is a lettering artist who uses layering in his work. I stumbled upon him im my initial research and was very intrigued with his work. Everything he does is hand rendered. Although he uses layering without really a purpose, i enjoy the work he does. He collaborates with his brother a lot, Roel Wouters. (not to sure how i feel about his website.) LAYERING AS FUNCTION //

the intent of something like this would be an interactive flash site. The user can create a PB&J sandwich through letters made to rese

mble the ingredients. The layering has a purpose: to show a completed sandwich. They stand alone as separate pieces but come together to form another. It allows the viewer to learn by putting them together.

(this is a quick experiment of the concept, if executed it would be a lot more complex subject.)

How can layering be used as a learning tool?

- learning by discovery. grammar, spelling?

How can i use layering to redesign something and create a more enriching experience for the user?

- during a class discussion last week we stumbled upon the idea of different languages. I think this is interesting direction to go and try and and create a better solution for having multiple languages on the same surface.

• a few problems i have with the current way its done is that its annoying to have to search on a instruction manual or cleaning product for your language. All the languages are often squeezed into a small area and things get congested real quick.

• also, in the additional languages it can rarely be well designed because there is not room. Its just text under the other which is very limiting to the overall design. Spanish speaking individuals shopping at mainstream stores, for the most part aren't afforded well designed product in their language. (But another question is, should they? They are in a english speaking nation so learn our language), and have to search on a product for it.

Im not sure how this can be practically improved, but it would be nice to experiment with, or if nothing else, just think about for a bit.

I did a little testing of layering the two languages on top of each other. It was not very successful, however.

In this one, i noticed hows similar "por" and "for" were. I also know there are other similar words in spanish.

Overall, i dont think direct layering is the right answer, it makes the text hard to read in both lanquages, or one is clear and the other is illegible.

Some other forms i would like to incorporate physical layering is maybe a poster series, a folded up pamphlet / flyer, and signage design.

EXPERIMENT //

I am going to place a large sheet of paper somewhere in this studio with heavy traffic. It will be an area that invites anyone to write on it. I want to try it for a week, and each day ill change the color of the marker.

It could yield some interesting results. (There are a few things i am looking for in particular, but if i put them on here it will spoil it.)

LAYERING

Layering, because of how diverse it is, intrigues me. There are many ways the term layering can be interpreted in graphic design. Layering also has a variety of functions, conceptually and technically. In a 3D space layering is based on the position of the viewer, therefore each element can be seen individually from one angle and all together from another. I’m really excited by this idea and how much of an impact it can have in an exhibit. What are the limits of this? Can the same things overlapped mean one thing from the left side of the space, and something completely different from the other? As far as print goes there is so much to explore. How much can you layer on top of each other and still have meaning and clarity. How can layering be incorporated into a book…like a children’s book? Technically speaking, layering could be used if you have a lot of information to fit into a small space, and with layering you have double, or even triple use of the same real estate. The perfect, simple use of layering can also be stunning and I often catch myself taking a second look.

With my studies I am interested in exploring 3d layering and multiple meaning in one space through different perspectives. Also working with it in a multiple page document of some kind could yield some interesting results. I also want to layer outside the multiply tool in Illustrator using methods such as screen printing (like the work of Benton), spray painting with stencils, and so on. Also with detail – how can all this layering bring new meaning on an intricate level. What could it say when you get up close to a piece made as a result of combination of many other pieces? How can layering be an experience for the user - having to put individual pieces, that have meaning on their own, on top of each other in the right order to get a new message (some kind of mailer or something?) There are so many things I want to explore!

The Fish, or The Take

there will be 5 contestants and each week they will go to the casino. There is a "pot" that each week gets added to based on the winnings of the contestants. The catch is, however, the amount that gets added is least amount earned. for example, if John earns $2000, suisy $1000, and Ted $800 teds winning will be added to the group pot because it was the lowest. If a contestant was to loose money, that amount would be subtracted from the pot. So the players are only as good as their weakest player. At the end of the show the contestants get to split the amount they have accumulated in their pot.

In poker the least experienced player of the game is called the fish - i thought this might be a fitting and intriguing name considering it is the weakest player that drives this game.

Because it is the weakest players take that adds to the pot, i thought the take would be another fitting title.

VISUAL ELEMENTS:

It will be shot completely stop motion. The narrative of the opening will be essentially a hand of game of poker with the camera in a first person perspective exploring all elements of the scene in a logical sequence. A lot of the information will be integrated into the environment.

I am choosing to do the show opener.

I think this would work best for my portfolio and the direction i want to go in this field because I am very interested in motion graphics and its possibly the direction i want to go in design. I look forward to new movies and tv shows and i pay a lot of attention to the credits. I like how it mixes credits with the movie and makes them like one. (information + image) It also has to catch the essence of the show or film and i think its a strong indicator of what the overall tone will be.

In choosing what kind of show opener im pretty sure i want to try a multi-contestant reality show. In trying to figure out what kind of show would be centered around cards i narrowed it to a poker tournament type show, or a some kind of card magic trick competition.

a. either a several week poker tournament where there is game each week and the loser is kicked off. Contestants, host. pretty simple.

b. Or a Magic show competition where each week their tricks are scored and the lowest score is kicked off. This one would require judges on top of the host and contestants to be included in the intro - not to mention explain the rules of the show. A lot of info in a short amount of time...could be interesting? Also would allow for a "fun" interpretation of my subject, as opposed to the "serious" approach of my previous projects - also transforming my content from poker to playing cards.

right off the bat im pretty sure i want to use some kind of stop motion effect. I dont think i want any video clips at all. I think the "flat" and "singular" of stop motion animation would relate nicely back to cards - in form at least.

While blog surfing Ramzy had a great example of kinda along what i was thinking. The Avengers

Top Chef is an example of nice reality show opener. Its nice the introduction of the contestants mixed with up close cinematography of the different cooking indicators.

Survivor is another example of this integration of contestants and rules.

I have a noticed a very obvious trend with these openers. They all seem to be put through the same template just the content changed. Its actually kind of disappointing. I wonder how i can reinterpret this info integration.

In the 1990s European countries banned the disposal of electronic waste in landfills. This created an e-waste processing industry in Europe. Some states in recent years has created policies banning CRT's due to the fear that the heavy metals found in the glass would leach into groundwater.

I found this to be challenge. Pride, confidence and inspiration are hard enough to represent on their own but taking a pre-existing image and enhancing these feelings proved to be difficult. The crop and light of the image was also limiting as i couldnt really place this half cropped doll in a environment.

STATEMENT:

Throughout the project i really enjoyed the research portion at the beginning. I enjoyed taking the issues and pushing them out through all the different tropes. I learned a lot about communicating a message. With a poster some kind of message need to be evident right away. With my hyperbole poster i have "vote" as an immediate read and then when they get closer they'll learn the the word is made from crosses of those lost. In my synechdoche poster the message is more even with the read clear up close and far away. I Chose my specific tropes because i feel they apply most to my demographic. Youth respond best to over the top and very specific. Moving forward i will re shoot my will you series in the photo room with an actual sticker. I am also going to work on the bitmap in my military poster.

He thought everything was working well. It was specific to my demographic and the trope was clear. He suggested i flip flop the i voted sticker and the will you for a clearer read. Also shrink down the type a little.

i didnt flip flop the read because i liked the backward narrative. I did shrink the type a bit.
